Kyoto‑born Matcha Stand
“88 Shibuya” Opens in Oku‑Shibu on July 1!
Kyoto’s car wash–area main branch—the Japanese tea stand “88 Ryōyōsha”—is opening its new location, “88 Shibuya”, in Oku‑Shibu on Tuesday, July 1.
“88 Ryōyōsha” is a Japanese tea stand curated by owner Junhiro Maruyama, featuring carefully selected Uji teas. Following its Tokyo debut at “88 Asakusa”, “88 Shibuya” becomes the second store in the capital.
Located just a short distance from the center of Shibuya, along tranquil Kamiyama‑dōri—an area dotted with unique shops—this new spot boasts an open terrace and stands a mere five‑minute walk from Yoyogi Park. It’s the perfect stop for a refreshing break while strolling or shopping in the Oku‑Shibu area. In addition to take‑out drinks, they’ll offer a summer‑limited “88 Ice” and the exclusive “88 Monaka” available only at 88 Shibuya.

Inside, a large counter constructed from connected individual cylinders takes center stage. The tabletop features a “naguri” hammered texture—famed as the first ornamental finish introduced by Sen no Rikyū—juxtaposed with the stand’s signature neon‑tube sign, creating a striking visual contrast. The interior design harmoniously blends Showa‑era nostalgia with cutting‑edge Reiwa‑era style, reflecting the spirit of Kamiyama‑dōri where tradition and modernity meet.
Unlike the traditional stand‑style setup, “88 Shibuya” also includes seating inside, allowing guests to relax and savor their Japanese tea at a more leisurely pace.
【Menu Highlights】
“88 Ice” – 1,600 yen
A summer‑only shaved‑ice dessert previously available only at 88 Ryōyōsha Arashiyama, now arriving in Shibuya. It features house‑made matcha condensed milk and matcha espuma, topped with matcha ice cream. A side of matcha syrup is served separately, letting you adjust the flavor to your taste. Seasonal ingredients change to maintain interest to the last spoonful. Not to mention, the mochi balls are freshly made each morning in-house.
“88 Monaka” – 400 yen

Exclusive to 88 Shibuya, this new item sandwiches homemade matcha bean paste between crisp monaka wafers. The subtly sweet paste pairs beautifully with Ishigaki salt served on the side—just a sprinkle brings out the richness and aroma of the matcha.
Of course, the classic signature drinks are also available—such as the “Matcha Latte Ichi” and the rich, full‑flavored “88 Shake.”
The flagship “Matcha Latte Ichi” is freshly whisked to order with a tea whisk and can be customized with ice or mochi toppings. The “88 Shake” combines refined, intense matcha with robust Hateruma black sugar—making it the perfect refreshing dessert drink for summer.
Escape the bustle of Shibuya and enjoy a luxurious moment with matcha.
